“Thor: Love and Thunder” is full of ridiculousness, fun and screaming goats.

Thor (Chris Hemsworth) leaves retirement to embark on a cosmic adventure to stop god-killer, Gorr (Christian Bale), with the help of Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and his ex-girlfriend (Natalie Portman).

Cue the classic rock and bring in the screaming goats! Although it may not be as strong, lightening struck twice with Taika Waititi helming another standalone Thor film.

Waititi took what made Thor: Ragnarok so successful, and put it on steroids. Which works in certain cases and fails in others. For example, I love continuing Thor’s journey as he grows as a character. Watching him go through the stages of grief to discover his purpose has been one of my favorite parts of the MCU. I also love Waititi’s humor and how he’s managed to add a level of sweetness into the Thor saga.

However, there’s a LOT more ridiculousness, some of the scripting is hokey, and the VFX are sort of cheesy (and getting heavily criticized on Twitter). Nevertheless, I found myself thoroughly entertained by the comic book action scenes, the rainbow aesthetic, and yes, the screaming goats.

The ensemble is pure electricity. On top of the return of our favorites, I was thrilled to see Natalie Portman return to the MCU as Jane Forester with more substance and personality. Plus, she totally KICKED ASS.

Speaking of kicking ass, I cannot stress what a terrifying FORCE Christian Bale is as Gorr. Probably one of the most chilling MCU villains to date. I wish he had more screen time.

Overall, it isn’t the BEST Marvel film to date. However, it’s sweet, light hearted and entertaining.

And in a world with so much darkness, it’s nice to have some love and thunder.

Final Thoughts: Sit back. Turn off your brain and enjoy Thor: Love and Thunder
