“Angel Has Fallen” and should probably just stay down.

He saved the US. Then he saved London. Now it’s time for him to save himself.

Secret service agent, Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) is taken into custody after he is framed for a failed assassination attempt on the president (Morgan Freeman). Banning escapes his captors and embarks on a mission to clear his name and discover the truth.

Let’s be honest. This was a series that really didn’t need to continue. Olympus Has Fallen was entertaining at most, but, after one wild presidential attack, how many more can we handle?

That being said, Angel Has Fallen is the weakest of the series. It’s predictable, cliché and utterly forgettable — the makings of a mindless action film. It doesn’t challenge any of its previous themes and just feeds into the series’ flaws rather than giving us any sort of development. Also what a waste of Jada Pinkett Smith!

I will give credit where credit is due. There are two solid action sequences that were a fun watch (yes, it was the massive woods explosion sequence) and Morgan Freeman, well, he’s perfect as always. The cinematic president we all deserve.

If you’re a fan of the franchise, I can imagine that this installment will give you exactly what you expect. But overall, I am hoping this is the finish to the series…because Gerard Butler deserves a better movie than this.

Final Thoughts: Mindless and unoriginal, I would pass on Angel Has Fallen.
