Audrey (Mila Kunis) and her best friend, Morgan (Kate McKinnon) are unwittingly thrown into a wild international conspiracy after they discover that Audrey’s ex-boyfriend is a spy.
Despite a handful of big laughs, the film is utterly ridiculous. The plot bounces all over the place, throwing in unnecessary characters and storylines right and left. It felt unoriginal, crude and had me eye-rolling during certain scenes.
But The Spy Who Dumped Me is not a complete dumpster fire. It shares a lot of pro-feminist messages, proving that women should not be underestimated.
However, the film’s greatest asset is Kate McKinnon. The woman is hilarious, delivering every absurd line with humor and wit. I really hope that we actually get to see Kate McKinnon as the singular star in the future, because she is comedic perfection.
Final Thoughts: The Spy Who Dumped Me is not the most inventive of comedies, however, it does a wonderful job of showcasing the talented, Kate McKinnon.
