Hold onto your butts. The dinosaurs are back.
Years after the destruction of Jurassic World, the island sits abandoned by humankind, leaving the surviving dinosaurs to fend for themselves until a dormant volcano begins to come to life. Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) team up to save the remaining dinosaurs from extinction as they start to uncover a conspiracy that could change everything.
I don’t typically expect much from these blockbuster films but to turn off my brain and just have fun. If you go in with this mentality, you won’t be disappointed.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is high on entertainment but even higher on ridiculousness. Although the rather mediocre screenplay introduces some interesting concepts, they become muddled by cliches and scenes that feel too repetitious of its predecessors. There are also some plot points that do not make any sense yet they are thrown into the film for “shock” value.
Don’t fret, there are some genuinely thrilling moments and heart-pounding “run” sequences. The only downfall is that everything just feels too familiar and too predictable – including the decision to finally give Claire sensible shoes!
The real star of this film is its CGI and special effects. The Jurassic Park franchise is famous for their innovative use of CGI, and this additions definitely shows off its mastery of the artform. The dinosaurs have never looked more realistic, and the special effects have never felt so impressive.
Although this may not be the best in the franchise, it is still entertaining. Because you know, dinosaurs…find a way.
Final Thoughts: Turn off your mind, grab some popcorn and prepare to mindlessly enjoy Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom despite its absurdity.
