Alas! The Sanderson Sisters are BACK to run amok in the highly anticipated sequel, Hocus Pocus 2.
As a huge fan of Kenny Ortega’s original romp around Salem, I have been SO excited to have more of the best witches to ever grace the screen.
Even if it is weaker the original, Hocus Pocus 2 is a spellbinding showcase of music, magic and mayhem. It keeps the campy tone of its predecessor, fueling the plot with nostalgic throwbacks and pure fan service — all that will keep fans who grew up with Hocus Pocus squeal with delight.
Now, let me be brutally honest, Hocus Pocus 2 is VERY much a straight to streaming film. It’s cheesy, predictable, could have used more Hannah Waddingham, less Sam Richardson, and a more compelling trio of teenage protagonists. Because nothing beats our 90’s squad of Omri Katz, Vinessa Shaw and Thora Birch — but that is another story. And hey, nobody’s perfect.
Except for Bette Midler.
Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy relish in reprising their iconic roles. The wickedly delightful trio have not missed a beat and are a total joy to watch on screen. No notes. Perfection.
And let me be candid, this trio is WHY Hocus Pocus is so popular with so many. And as a fan, that’s all I want — these amazing characters to live their best lives for 100 minutes. Hell. Give me another for all we care.
So let the Sanderson Sister put a spell on you this Halloween. It’s just a bunch of “Hocus Pocus” after all.
