2022 has blessed us with the most Nicolas Cage movie EVER, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
Facing financial ruin, Nicholas Cage accepts a $1 million opportunity to attend a billionaire superfan’s (Pedro Pascal) birthday party. However, things don’t go exactly as planned when Nick is recruited by the CIA to catch his superfan…who turns out to be a dangerous drug kingpin.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is pure joy. It’s a delightfully creative meta film experience not only for lovers of Nick Cage and lovers of film.
The narrative maximizes the ridiculous persona of Nick Cage without mocking him. And in case you couldn’t tell from the trailers, Cage is absolutely thriving.
It is refreshing to see an actor who is self aware and 1000% commit to an experience that pokes fun at their on screen and off screen identity. Cage eats up every minute of it.
And honestly, it feels really good to have Cage back, when though to quote the film, “he didn’t really go anywhere”.
However, it is the chemistry between Nick Cage and Pedro Pascal that had me in love with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Their bromance is so damn charming, you cannot help but squeal at how adorable their friendship is.
I would literally just have watched their two character lovingly bond while watching Paddington 2 together. Also, the love and respect for Paddington 2 throughout the film is astounding. Yes. It is a masterpiece. Bravo.
But overall, this original comedy will have you laughing throughout, and probably make you go home to watch your favorite Nicholas Cage movie.
Final Thoughts: The most Nicholas Cage film ever is a surprisingly meta delight.
