When mommy blogger, Stephanie (Anna Kendrick), discovers that her new best friend, Emily (Blake Lively), has suddenly disappeared, she is determined to uncover the truth leading her down a thrilling path of betrayal, secrets, revenge, sex and murder.
I was very hesitant when I heard that director, Paul Feig was creating a mystery. He’s the man behind so many female driven comedies I hold near and dear to my heart, I was wondering if he could create something fantastic in another genre.
However, Feig has created a twisty blend of a mysterious thriller with good hearted comedy and wit. It is by no means the next Gone Girl but it is extremely engaging. And despite its Lifetime movie-sequel finale, A Simple Favor was simply delightful.
Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively give invigorating performances that are both electrifying and hilarious. They have fantastic chemistry onscreen.
I also have to also hand it Andrew Rannels, who has several scene stealing one liners.
I will admit, I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this movie. It was a perfect entertaining escape that will have little of something for everyone.
Final Thoughts: A Simple Favor is the definition of pure entertainment with an interesting plot and great cast.
