Fasten your seatbelts kids and grab your bestie because “Joy Ride” is filled with debauchery, fuzzy feels, K-Pop and is the funniest film of 2023.
“Joy Ride” follows four Asian-American friends as they embark on an epic journey around China in search of one of their birth mothers. Although many are comparing this raunchy rollercoaster to R-rated comedy legends like “Bridesmaids” or “The Hangover,” “Joy Ride” is 100% it’s own identity.
Or as I’d like to say 100% THAT bitch in all the best ways.
Honestly, I am not kidding when I tell you that I howled with laughter and cried my eye liner off I was laughing THAT hard. I have not had this much fun during a R-rated adult comedy in years. And of course a comedy only truly works when it has a brilliant ensemble to deliver.
Ashley Park, Stephanie Hsu, Sherry Cola and Sabrina Wu have irresistible chemistry proving to be a fresh and ferociously funny foursome — each having their own terrific stand out moments. Plus each of their performances are committed to not only to landing to the outrageous moments but also to the more emotional moments.
Yes. That’s right. On top of making you laugh until you cry, “Joy Ride” will pull at your heart strings and may make you shed a tear or two. Their friendship feels so real, as well as the general theme of owning one’s identity.
Please don’t let this “Joy Ride” pass you by. I promise you will thank me later.
