There’s a lot to be thankful this holiday season – friends, family and of course, Michael B. Jordan. That’s why I decided to spend my Thanksgiving with Creed II.
The sequel follows Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) as he prepares to face off against an opponent with ties to his father’s tragic demise. With Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) and Bianca (Tessa Thompson) by his side, Adonis rediscovers himself by embracing his family and his legacy.
All of the Rocky movies have the same sort of formula but that doesn’t make them less enjoyable. This is definitely the case for Creed II that follows the same patterns as so many of its predecessors. However, the characters, the visceral sports action, and the dramatic depth are what makes Creed II a victory. The sequel is a solid follow up even though I personally missed Ryan Coogler’s directorial style.
Michael B. Jordan is an absolute knock out returning as Creed (and so are his abs, but I digress). Between his emotional complexities and determination, Jordan takes command of the screen and will have the audience cheering – no seriously, people were actually cheering during my screening.
Final Thoughts: This is one sports movie worth cheering for. Creed II is a predictable but enjoyable triumphant with an incredible performance by Michael B. Jordan.
